What to Expect After Hair Transplant

A lot of people who are considering to go ahead with hair transplant procedure feel curious about what to expect after a hair transplant. We have listed some essential points for you to keep in mind if you think of undergoing hair transplantation.

Healing is subjective, but it is fast

FUE technique ensures that healing is fast as it is a minimally invasive hair transplant technique. Very small scabs will develop on the head, but they will disappear within ten days. The result will be natural and undetectable. Pain after the procedure is minimal and it can easily be handled with painkillers.

There may be shedding after the surgery

It is common that some shedding will be experienced within two months after the procedure. It is nothing to worry about as it is part of the healing process. The shedding of the transplanted hair will pave the way for stronger hair follicles to grow. New hair will begin to grow three months after the procedure.

You need a year to see final results

As indicated earlier, new hair begins to grow after the 3rd month, although everyone may experience slightly earlier or later growth. Growing hair after the 3rd month may seem thin and light in colour, but they will be thicker and darker in colour as time passes.

Especially between the 5th and 6th month, the change is significant. But it is only after a year that the final result is usually achieved. The desired thickness, darkness and lengthiness of the hair are also attained a year after hair transplant procedure.

You may still need another session

It may not be possible to cover the whole balding area at a single hair transplant session due to a big balding area or insufficient donor area. Such cases may require a follow-up session for better results. Rooney, for example, underwent a second session to patch up balding in his crown area.

The result is permanent

The best thing about hair transplant is that the result is permanent because hair follicles on donor area are DHT (dihydrotestosterone hormone) resistant. When these DHT resistant follicles are transplanted into balding areas, they will continue to grow in their new place.

As long as you are aware of what to expect after hair transplant, your post-operative period will be more comfortable.
