If you are thinking of getting a septorhinoplasty, Turkey is a great destination to have one. In Turkey, you would get the best quality nose jobs done at very affordable prices, cheaper than most of the places in the world.

Getting Ready for Septorhinoplasty in Turkey

Getting a nose job is as only as effective as the preparations you make before you are booked for the surgery. It is important to hold several meetings with the patient consultant to discuss important issues that would decide whether you get the nose job or not. Over the course of these meetings, the following may be required of you:

  • Your Expectations:

Your surgeon would be asking you about what kind of surgery you want, and how you would want your face to look like after the surgery is successful. After the surgeon hears your expectations, he would tell you what the surgery can realistically do for you. He would also examine your face and tell you how the surgery can be done to ensure that your nose maintains balance with your facial features. It is important to be honest with your expectations and avoid being disappointed after the surgery is performed.

  • Taking Your Photographs:

Your surgeon would take pictures of all the angles of your face and nose. This is to enable him/her to run the photographs on a software program and show you possible outcomes of your nose after the surgery.

  • An Examination:

Your surgeon would run all manner of physical tests on you, especially tests on your nose to determine if you would have breathing problems after rhinoplasty. He would also examine the toughness of your skin and how it may affect the outcome of the surgery.

  • Your Medical Records:

Your surgeon would ask for your medical records to determine if you are qualified for the surgery or not. He/she may want to know if you have had any previous surgeries or any injury to the nose. Your surgeon might disqualify you from the surgery if you have a history of bleeding disorders as it would certainly cause complications after surgery if you are allowed to undergo it.

How to Prepare for Surgery

By this time, you should have been booked for surgery. While waiting for your surgery date, it is important that you do not take any medication that is not recommended by your surgeon. Also, do not take medication that contains aspirin or ibuprofen for three weeks before or after your surgery. Most importantly, if you smoke, you have to stop smoking three weeks before your surgery and throughout the length of your recuperation period. Smoking seriously slows down the pace of your recovery and can cause you to have an infection, and this can lead to complications.

How the Surgery Works

Depending on what you want and your facial features, your surgeon can change the shape of your nose in so many ways. You will have a simulation picture from the surgeon. That will make you feel more comfortable to know the estimated look after the procedure. If it is a minor change, your surgeon extracts cartilage bones from your ear or from the deeper parts of your nose for the surgery. If it is a major change, your surgeon may make use of cartilage from your rib or from any other parts of your body.

On the procedure day, the patients have their final consultation with the surgeon. After some blood tests, the medical team come to prepare the patient for the surgery. The patient will be under the general anaesthesia until the end of the procedure. This kind of anaesthesia affects your whole body and causes you to sleep completely during surgery. General anaesthesia requires intubation because the anaesthesia deadens the respiratory, the system, whenever the need for an alternative source of oxygen.

What to Expect After the Surgery?

While you are recuperating, it is important to rest with your head raised above every other part of your body to prevent swelling or bleeding. You may feel like your nose is blocked because of a possible swelling inside your nose, but it is something that should go as you slowly recover. You may also feel pain because of the splints placed inside your nose by your surgeon to keep it in place while it heals. Typically, splints only last one week, so you should feel less pain after they are taken out after a week.

It is normal to bleed a little or have fluid running down your nose after surgery. Your surgeon may give you a drip pad to control the flow of the fluid. To avoid getting your nose infected, it is important to change the drip pad at intervals stipulated by the surgeon.

How to Boost Your Recovery

  • Avoid any activity that would leave you exhausted. Immediately after your surgery is not an appropriate time to start exercising.
  • Except you have someone who can be extremely careful, do not wear clothes that you would have to pull over your head. The clothes might brush your nose and cause pain and bruising. Wear clothes that you can button or zip to the front.
  • Be gentle while brushing your teeth. Do not shake your face rigorously while brushing in order not to interfere with the healing of your nose.
  • While your nose heals, you should not express extreme facial emotions like smiling widely or laughing hard. These facial expressions can affect the nose and interfere with your recovery.
  • Do not blow your nose. If your nose feels blocked, look for a medication that can clear it.
  • Do not use showers. Water should not touch your nose while you are recovering as it may cause you discomfort. Take baths with a bucket so that you can ensure that water does not touch your nose.
  • Do not eat foods that might constipate you and cause you to strain and put pressure on your face while passing waste. Eat a lot of fruits, vegetables, and foods that are generally high in fibre to enhance easy bowel movement.
  • If you wear eyeglasses or sunglasses, avoid placing them on the bridge of your nose. This can cause discomfort and slow down the pace of your recovery. If you cannot do without them, put them in your pockets or bag until your nose heals.
  • When you experience swelling in and around the nose, do not place ice blocks on your nose. This might cause more discomfort. Instead, try to cut down on your sodium intake. Taking less sodium would make the swelling heal faster.

Possible Discomforts After the Procedure

Like any other surgery, septorhinoplasty is not risk-free. Especially if you develop complications after the surgery, you may experience:

  • Unusual uneasiness around your nose which may require you to have another surgery
  • Scarring, especially if the surgeons did not do an excellent job of concealing your incisions
  • Pain in the nose that may lead to an uncomfortable swelling
  • A feeling that your new nose might not compliment your face
  • Lasting deadness around your nose
  • Trouble with breathing
  • Bleeding
  • A hostile reaction to anaesthesia

Possible Outcome:

Your nose might change drastically after your surgery. And you must be prepared to accept the reality that you would take some time to get used to your new look. But if you feel that the surgery was not done to your taste, ask your surgeon if it is advisable to have another surgery. If he/she says it is, then you would have to wait for one year before you get another surgery. If your surgeon advises against another surgery because of how it can adversely affect your health, do not insist on going ahead with the surgery. Insisting on a surgery against the advice of your surgeon can seriously endanger your life.
