With the post-pandemic era in sight, the cosmetic surgery boom continues and according to Longevita, a UK-registered medical tourism facilitator that has connected over 15,000 people with accredited independent cosmetic surgery providers, especially liposuction will see an increase in demand in 2023.
Longevita asked its followers on Instagram, of which 52 participated in the Q&A story about the cosmetic surgery that they most desired in 2023.
The most popular procedure among 27% of participants was breast surgery, including augmentation and reduction. A close second was liposuction, which was desired by 19% of the participants.
This is a deviation from the norm where cosmetic procedures such as rhinoplasty and tummy tuck are more popular than liposuction, as indicated by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons’ audit 2020-2021.
For a long time, liposuction has been one of the more popular cosmetic procedures, and contrary to popular belief, it’s not for losing weight.

Not just that, but certain surgical techniques can also etch six-packs on the abdomen, eliminating the need to work out to get one.
A growing number of patients are also seeking out minimally-invasive liposuction that uses ultrasonic, ultrasound, laser and radiofrequency to facilitate faster recovery.
In addition to liposuction, 15% wanted to undergo a tummy tuck and mommy makeover, which combines a tummy tuck, liposuction and breast surgery, almost 12% wanted to undergo a rhinoplasty, and merely 5% wanted to have a facelift.
It should be noted that over 19,000 people follow Longevita on Instagram, with 80% of them female and 50% between 25 and 34 years old.
A small percentage of the followers also desired to have a smile makeover, hair transplant, and buccal fat removal done.
According to Prof Dr Fuat Yuksel, a plastic surgeon at Longevita who has been in practice for more than 30 years, “Liposuction is not for weight loss, so its emotional benefits far outweigh the physical ones.
“Both men and women say that they feel more comfortable and confident in their bodies after having this surgery. And many wait years for this to happen.”
On the rising demand for liposuction, Prof Fuat further added, “Since the pandemic, many people have changed their lifestyles. Now that a lot of us work from home, we are more sedentary than before, and this has made people even more conscious about their bodies.”
With that, it is expected that the demand for such body contouring procedures will only continue to rise.
